About The Role

We are seeking a skilled PHP Back End Developer to join our dynamic Digital Team. In this role, you will work on a variety of exciting projects for well-known brands, taking a proactive role in building and maintaining high-quality websites and applications. This is a great opportunity to contribute your expertise in a creative agency setting, collaborate with a talented digital team, and share your skills across a range of client-focused projects.

You will be responsible for managing and delivering backend development work, with a focus on best practices, scalability, and efficiency. You’ll play a key role in translating project requirements into reliable, maintainable code, while collaborating with both backend and frontend developers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all technical aspects of backend web development
  • Write clean, well-structured PHP and MySQL code
  • Develop responsive, mobile-first websites
  • Collaborate with frontend developers for seamless integration
  • Maintain knowledge of coding best practices and modern techniques
  • Attend client meetings and communicate technical insights confidently
  • Proactively solve problems and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • Contribute to a positive team environment

Qualifications

Essentials:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a backend developer
  • Proven expertise in PHP and MySQL
  • Experience building responsive, mobile-first websites
  • Solid understanding of JavaScript and jQuery
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills
  • Experience working closely with frontend developers
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines and work as part of a team
  • Comfortable in client-facing discussions

Desirables

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science
  • Familiarity with .NET (Visual Studio, C#) and Umbraco
  • Understanding of UX/UI principles
  • App development experience (iOS and Android)
  • Knowledge of SEO, form tracking, and A/B testing techniques
  • Experience using version control tools such as SVN
