We are working with a leading LSP that is looking to employ an AI/ML Engineer on a fully remote basis (in Europe).

The client has been operating for over 28 years, combining human expertise with proprietary AI-driven translation tools. They work with global enterprises and organizations like European government bodies and the United Nations.

Job Overview

As an AI/ML Engineer (NLP - Machine Translation), you will design, build, and optimize AI models to improve the quality of machine-generated translations. Your focus will be on refining raw machine translation output using advanced NLP techniques, ensuring translations are fluent, accurate, and contextually appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement AI/ML models focused on improving machine translation accuracy and fluency.
  • Research and integrate advanced NLP techniques such as sequence-to-sequence models, transformer architectures, and attention mechanisms.
  • Fine-tune machine translation models (e.g., GPT, BERT) and apply post-processing techniques to enhance translation output.
  • Collaborate with linguists, translators, and other stakeholders to identify areas of improvement in machine-generated translations.
  • Evaluate machine translation output using quality metrics such as BLEU, ROUGE, METEOR, and TER, and make data-driven improvements.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in NLP, machine translation, and AI to ensure we leverage cutting-edge technology.
  • Develop APIs and scalable solutions to deploy AI-enhanced translation systems within our service infrastructure.
  • Provide support in evaluating, selecting, and customizing third-party AI/ML models for integration into our translation pipeline.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Computational Linguistics, or a related field (Ph.D. is a plus).
  • 3+ years of experience in AI/ML development, with a strong focus on NLP and machine translation systems.
  • Proficiency in Python and frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
  • Experience working with Transformer models (BERT, GPT, etc.), sequence-to-sequence models, and neural machine translation systems.
  • Strong understanding of post-processing techniques for enhancing machine translation, such as error correction, re-ranking, or rule-based augmentation.
  • Familiarity with NLP libraries like Hugging Face, NLTK, or SpaCy.
  • Knowledge of machine translation evaluation metrics such as BLEU, ROUGE, or METEOR.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with reinforcement learning applied to NLP tasks.
  • Familiarity with low-resource language translation and multilingual models.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based machine learning platforms (AWS, GCP).
