Are you an experienced Unreal Engine Level Design leader ready to craft the battlegrounds of a groundbreaking first-person strategic warfare game?


Axiosys is an ambitious indie studio crafting Mawforged, a next-generation title built with Unreal Engine 5. We're passionate about creating immersive worlds, deep lore, and innovative gameplay systems that push boundaries. We're seeking a visionary Lead Level Designer to join our core team, drive the creation of compelling and strategic environments for Mawforged, and help build Axiosys from the ground up.


🚀 The Opportunity:


As our Lead Level Designer, you won't just be placing assets – you'll be a crucial architect of the player experience. You will lead the design and implementation of all in-game environments, translate ambitious design goals into engaging and strategically rich gameplay spaces using Unreal Engine 5, and significantly influence the moment-to-moment gameplay of Mawforged. This is a unique chance to leave your mark on a new IP and shape its world.


🏞️ What You'll Do:


  Lead & Envision: Spearhead the level design vision for Mawforged, guiding the creation of all maps and environments, ensuring they align with gameplay, narrative, and artistic direction. Mentor and potentially manage future level design team members.

  Design & Build: Conceptualize, prototype (whitebox/greybox), implement, and iterate on immersive and strategically sound game levels, including terrain, points of interest, encounter areas, and objective placements using UE5.

  Gameplay Integration: Craft levels that intrinsically support and enhance core gameplay mechanics, faction-specific strategies, and diverse combat scenarios for our first-person strategic warfare.

  Collaborate: Work closely with game designers, artists, and programmers to ensure levels are performant, aesthetically compelling, and technically sound. Translate narrative beats and lore into tangible environmental storytelling.

  Optimize & Iterate: Focus on player experience, ensuring excellent flow, pacing, and balance across all levels. Continuously iterate on designs based on playtesting feedback and performance metrics.

  Set Standards: Champion best practices in level design, documentation, modular design, and efficient use of Unreal Engine 5 tools and features for world-building.

  Problem Solve: Identify and resolve design challenges, player friction points, and ensure levels meet both creative and technical requirements.

  Drive Innovation: Stay current with Unreal Engine advancements and explore innovative level design techniques to create unique and memorable player experiences.


✅ Who You Are:


  Proven Level Design Leader: You have significant experience as a Lead or Senior Level Designer on at least one shipped title, preferably using Unreal Engine.

  Unreal Engine World-Building Expert: Deep understanding and practical experience with Unreal Engine 5's level creation tools (e.g., world building, terrain editing, BSP, lighting, sequencer, and ideally Blueprint scripting for level events).

  Strategic & Multiplayer Mindset: Solid experience designing levels for multiplayer games, with a strong understanding of map flow, choke points, cover, sightlines, and balancing for strategic and tactical gameplay, ideally in FPS or strategy genres.

  Strong Design Sensibilities: A keen eye for composition, pacing, environmental storytelling, and the ability to create atmosphere and mood through level architecture and layout.

  Excellent Communicator: You can clearly articulate design concepts, collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and provide constructive feedback.

  Creative Problem Solver: You possess strong analytical skills to deconstruct player experiences and iterate effectively on level designs to achieve desired outcomes.

  Team Player: Experience working within iterative development processes (e.g., Agile/Scrum).


⭐ Bonus Points:


  Passion for and experience with Strategy, Action, or FPS genres, especially those with distinct faction gameplay.

  Experience designing for modular kits and understanding of asset pipelines.

  Familiarity with lighting, post-processing, and optimizing levels for performance in UE5.

  Proficiency with version control systems like Git or Perforce.

  Experience scripting dynamic events or encounters within levels.
