Your Mission as Legal Counsel

As a Legal Counsel at FRISS, you’ll play a vital role in our growth by drafting and optimizing contracts, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and helping us take commercially sound, calculated risks when working with clients and suppliers.

What success looks like after your first year:

• You’ve created clear, scalable frameworks for drafting and managing contracts.
• You’re the go-to expert on Dutch, British and EU legal matters within FRISS.
• You’ve streamlined the contracting workflow with a focus on efficiency and standardization in collaboration with internal partner teams (e.g. Sales and Customer Success)
• You’ve developed a robust understanding of the services we deliver to our customers and the operational specificities which are important for our customer contracts.

Your day-to-day responsibilities:

• Designing clear workflows and legal frameworks to support our ongoing professionalization.
• Acting as a trusted advisor, empowering internal teams to make informed decisions about contracts and compliance.
• Collaborating with Sales and Customer Success as well as Engineering, Marketing and HR teams to finalize contracts, primarily in Europe (EU and UK) and Australia, ensuring alignment with legal and commercial goals.

Your Impact at FRISS

You’ll be part of a Legal and Compliance team that drives our mission to win over the world’s leading insurance companies. These complex sales processes require strategic insights and strong legal leadership—and that’s where you come in. Working closely with our amazing General Counsel in the USA, as well as our Finance and Sales, Pre-Sales and Customer Success teams, you’ll play a central role in guiding FRISS’s growth and advancing our fight against fraud. You will also be working closely with our HR, Marketing, Engineering and Business Operations teams, assisting them with their contracting needs and legal reviews, e.g. on supplier contracts.

With short communication lines and ambitious goals, your role is crucial in ensuring we remain legally sound while continuing to fight Fraud.

What We’re Looking For

• A law degree with at least 5 years of experience as an in-house counsel, preferably in the software/tech sector (SaaS experience is a big plus).
• Expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, along with providing practical legal advice on internal matters.
• Familiarity with corporate governance, insurance, and privacy laws, plus an interest in emerging legal and technology trends.
• Fluency in both Dutch and English (spoken and written). Additional languages are a bonus.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills with a sharp business mindset.
• A collaborative attitude, willingness to work independently, and a good sense of humor.
• Flexibility to work in a hybrid model (50/50 between home and our Utrecht office).
