Network Engineer - Routing/Switching Core | Contract to Perm | Sydney CBD Hybrid

The role:
We're looking for a hands-on Network Engineer who's solid in routing, switching, and firewalling (Cisco/Juniper/Palo Alto) - but who also sees the value of staying current with cloud networking, scripting, and containerisation.
This isn't a "pure BAU" gig. Yes, you'll handle critical operational duties. But you'll also partner on network automation, cloud projects, and infrastructure modernisation - provided you've got at least some professional experience or exposure in those spaces.

What you'll do:

• Maintain and evolve enterprise networks - routing, switching, security, and load balancing.

• Act as a lead responder for outages and critical incidents.

• Partner with project teams to support upgrades, change control, and capacity planning.

• Apply (and grow) your cloud networking and scripting skills to support automation and efficiency gains.

• Work closely with peers and leaders in a collaborative, Sydney CBD-based team (hybrid working).

What we're really looking for:
✅ Mandatory:

• 4+ years enterprise networking (Cisco/Juniper switching/routing)

• Firewall experience (Palo Alto, Cisco ASA or Fortigate)

• Strong troubleshooting and incident resolution skills

• Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident (essential)

• Happy to be in the office 2-3 days per week (Sydney CBD)

✅ Desirable (and where you'll grow further):

• Public cloud networking (AWS, Azure or GCP - even light professional use counts)

• Scripting/automation (bash, Python)

• Kubernetes/OpenStack or related container/virtualisation experience

• DevOps tooling (BitBucket, GitHub)

• Experience with protocols like BGP, OSPF, HSRP/VRRP
