Curious about combining systems engineering with microscope solutions designed for space? Join ASRO and help shape the future of space technology
Your role with us
As a Systems Engineer at ASRO, you will take part in developing next-generation microscope solutions for space-based life and biosciences. You will play a key role in translating customer requirements into concrete technical implementations while maintaining a holistic view across electronic, mechanical, and optical subsystems.
Your work will include requirement management, system-level documentation, and coordination of MAIT (manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing) planning. You will also participate in customer discussions, ensuring that end-user needs are captured and integrated into our product development process. The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to space-bound instrumentation projects, including a flagship mission with a planned launch in early 2026.
We are currently running development projects to deploy microscopes on different platforms. As such, the Systems Engineer plays a critical role in navigating platform-specific requirements and ensuring that our multidisciplinary development team stays aligned with the broader technical goals.
What makes you a great fit?
You can be in the early stages of your engineering career or already have more experience, as long as you are eager to deepen your expertise in a multidisciplinary setting. With some relevant experience already under your belt, you’re comfortable taking technical responsibility while collaborating with customers to align real-world needs with system design. You think in terms of the big picture, enjoy bridging electronics, optics, and mechanics, and bring a precise, proactive, and documentation-savvy approach to your work.
We hope you have:
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering field
- +1 year of relevant engineering experience
- Basic understanding of electronics and some knowledge of optics/microscopy
- Good documentation skills and a structured way of working
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Full professional proficiency in English
Additionally, we value:
- Experience with space projects or aerospace system development
- Familiarity with ESA/NASA standards or ISS payload requirements
- Background or knowledge related to biosciences
What ASRO offers you?
- Unique and impactful work developing spaceflight-qualified scientific instruments
- A versatile role where you can influence future product direction
- A small and highly skilled team with support from optics, electronics, mechanics, and software experts
- The impact and versatility that come with working in a small company
- Flexible working methods and the possibility for partial remote work
- A monthly salary based on your experience and expertise, along with healthcare insurance as an employment benefit
