A DAY IN THE LIFE – What You’ll Do.

As a Game Development Officer, you’ll be the heartbeat of the AFL in the community, creating unforgettable experiences that connect kids, schools, and families to the game.

You’ll

  • Deliver the Game: Run dynamic Auskick, Superkick, AFL Nines, and school clinics that spark a lifelong love of footy.
  • Build Community Connections: Create pathways for people to connect with AFL through junior and senior clubs, fostering a sense of belonging and unity through the game.
  • Celebrate Inclusion: Assist with programs that highlight diversity, including multicultural, all abilities, and Indigenous programs.
  • Support Game Days: Be part of the action at AFL match days, bringing the game to life for fans of all ages.

This position is only for applicants wishing to work with the AFL in North West Tasmania — there are currently no vacancies in Southern or Northern Tasmania.

What You Need To Know -

Flexibility and Impact: This is a casual role, perfect for those who thrive in dynamic, community-focused environments.

Hours can vary, ranging from quick, two-hour shifts to longer stints during peak program periods. Flexibility is key – some weeks may be busier than others, so if you’re adaptable and ready to jump in when needed, this role is for you.

Most Shifts Typically Occur

  • During school hours for school programs
  • Before or after school for Auskick and Superkick
  • After school for AFL Nines

  • Driven and Dependable: You’re reliable, adaptable, and ready to bring energy to every shift.
  • Ready to Go: You hold a valid Tasmanian Driver’s License and a Working with Children Check (or are willing to obtain one).

The executive and management of our organisation are responsible for undertaking recruitment and ensuring that our processes and systems are robust and thorough, as well as being communicated and understood internally. Our recruitment process is a 5-step process and includes meeting and engaging with a variety of key people from across the organisation as well as completing thorough verification checks.

As part of our comprehensive recruitment process we ensure that all safety and legislative checks such as working with children checks, Criminal background checks, employment and personal reference checks are completed to ensure anyone working for the AFL is fit for the role they are employed in, prior to commencing employment.

The AFL takes the safety of children and young people very seriously and reviews all process and procedures in line with current state and federal legislation.
