Embedded Hardware Engineer – Aerospace & Defense

We are seeking a skilled Embedded Hardware Engineer to support the design and development of mission-critical electronic systems for one of our clients, focusing on aerospace and defense applications. Based in Trondheim, you will work within a multidisciplinary team on projects involving sensor systems, communication modules, and real-time control electronics for airborne and defense platforms. The work adheres to strict safety, quality, and environmental standards typical of the defense and aerospace industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop mixed-signal circuits, including ADCs, DACs, power management, and high-speed interfaces
- Create and review schematics and multi-layer PCB layouts using tools like Altium Designer or Mentor Graphics
- Select and validate electronic components with consideration for harsh environments, long product lifecycles, and obsolescence risks
- Perform signal integrity analysis, thermal design, and EMI/EMC compliance testing
- Support FPGA/SoC integration and collaborate with embedded software engineers
- Participate in design reviews, FMEA, and verification planning (e.g., DO-254 level C or B)
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- MSc or BSc in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or equivalent
- Strong understanding of analog/digital design principles, signal conditioning, and filtering
- Experience with defense or aerospace standards, including DO-160, DO-254, or MIL-STD-810
- Familiarity with SPICE simulation tools (e.g., LTSpice, PSpice)
- Proficient in PCB layout and schematic capture tools
Preferred Skills (a strong plus):
- Experience with VHDL/Verilog for FPGA development (e.g., Xilinx, Intel/Altera)
- Knowledge of IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, IPC-2221)
- Hands-on experience with environmental and compliance testing (temperature cycling, vibration, EMI/EMC)
- Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) and configuration control systems
