S-kaupat is S Group’s grocery eCommerce service and a true helper in daily routines and tasks, making customers’ lives easier by enabling them to order groceries online. The service has gained market-leader position in the few years after its launch. We started the service as a pilot to sell crayfish in Food Market Herkku, and nowadays around 40.000 orders are delivered via S-kaupat every week. S-kaupat can be found on the web and mobile, and the operations cover all of Finland.

We’re looking for a Backend Engineer for S-kaupat.

Behind the S-kaupat web service and mobile app, there is a diverse team of appr. 100 professionals from the fields of engineering, design, business, data and analytics, QA and customer service. We share end-to-end responsibility for S-kaupat from product vision to release and operations. Within the team, we have organized ourselves into smaller autonomous squads following the customer journey.

We're seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to join our TechOps squad. If you're passionate about backend development, infrastructure design, and system observability, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to our platform engineering efforts - shaping systems that are reliable, performant, and easy to maintain, all while delivering a seamless experience to our customers. In TechOps, you’ll serve as the vital link between infrastructure and product engineering. You'll dive into both backend and infrastructure code, refining our platform to be efficient, resilient, and low-maintenance. Collaborating closely with development teams, you’ll embed where needed to uncover challenges and help elevate engineering practices across the organization.

This Role Is Ideal For Someone Who Is

• A DevOps oriented hands-on developer with deep backend expertise, fluent in writing robust, scalable services
• Experienced in infrastructure as code, deployment pipelines, and cloud-native tooling
• Passionate about observability and believes in making systems transparent and diagnosable
• Constantly optimizing. You seek to simplify, automate, and reduce maintenance overhead wherever possible
• Motivated by performance, reliability, and developer experience. You make services faster, easier to operate, and friendlier to develop on
• Decisive in ensuring an excellent customer experience.
  
  

The architecture is serverless, event-driven and we work with modern technologies. You’ll’ have the opportunity to shape our tech stack and contribute to architectural decisions.

What We Hope From You

• At least five years of experience in hands-on coding and managing and operating production environments
• Experience with AWS, Serverless, Terraform, CDK, TypeScript, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, GitLab CI/CD
• Ability to see big picture and architecture, and to support effective software development and operations in collaboration with development teams
• Communicative working style and willingness to work closely together with development teams
• Fluent communication skills in English
