AI System Security Intern

Helsinki System Security Laboratory of the Huawei Finland Research Center has been active in the research and development of system security features for Huawei mobile phones, tablets and other consumer devices. Much of our work revolves around mitigating system security risks by hardening OS kernels, driver subsystems and system runtimes with various software and hardware-assisted technologies and providing critical system security services. Many of our earlier projects power the security of Huawei’s HarmonyOS devices today, and we will keep innovating and conducting advanced system security research as Huawei is investing heavily into the new HarmonyOS Next.

We are looking for a thesis worker that together with us will explore novel applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI), including Large Language Models (LLMs), to enhance system access control mechanisms, specifically investigating the potential of AI in designing access control policies and improving security, adaptability, and user experience (in the security domain) beyond traditional approaches.

This position is specifically planned to produce a thesis focusing on public literature research, where the student will collect available public information from academic research, internet discussions and other available information in the intersection of machine learning and systems security, and digest the most important findings into a comprehensive report on the subject. Possible PoCs and other coding / training explorations is considered a stretch goal

Location: This position is located at our R&D office in Ruoholahti, Helsinki, Finland, and the work will be done on-site.

Applicant Requirements

• Ongoing BSc or MSc studies in a relevant field
• Some proficiency in system security and OS concepts, as well as ML basics.
• Skills to work and interact in English, good teamwork skill
