Air Liquide Engineering & Construction builds the Group’s production units (mainly air gas separation and hydrogen production units) and provides external customers with efficient, sustainable, customized technology and process solutions. Our core expertise in industrial gas, energy conversion and gas purification, enables customers to optimize natural resources. We cover the entire project life-cycle: license engineering services / proprietary equipment, high-end engineering & design capabilities, project management & execution services. How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?
We are looking for a highly skilled person that is capable to act both as Project Director (on large and mid size projects) as well as take the role of Engineering Manager on our very large projects.
The successful candidate will manage multi-locations, multinational, multicultural in-house engineering teams and subcontracted engineering partners for the successful completion of 300M€ or more EP or EPC Projects. These EP or EPC are multi-technology, multi-centers execution projects to be executed within a given schedule, budget and with the highest respect of engineering standards.
He/She is accountable for all engineering activities and KPIs of the project. Furthermore, he/she is responsible for the identification, qualification of engineering partners for the proper execution of his/her project. He/She then is fully responsible for the management and control of these engineering partners.
He/She is the representative of Air Liquide E&C towards the clients, suppliers, partners and subcontractors for all technical & engineering aspects of his/her project.

- As part of the core team of the project (together with Proposal Manager, Project Procurement Manager, Site Manager), develop the best economical & technical solution adapted to the final customer requirements (budget, planning, scope, final technical solution etc.), challenging all the stakeholders to ensure the best AL E&C competitiveness.
- Ensure effective handover from Development Phase to Execution Phase.
- Evaluate resources and required skills to ensure excellence in the Execution.
- Ensure excellence in Project Execution management to deliver AL E&C’s commitments for client satisfaction as defined during the Handover (Technical Performances, Capex, schedule, quality, risks, safety etc.).
- For mid-size projects, manage directly the engineering resources allocated to the project (engineering managers, project engineers, discipline leads, each in charge of a specific scope or package).
- Manage the interfaces among engineering disciplines and with technology department, procurement department, site activities, vendors, licensors, and partners.
- Act as the main point of contact for all engineering & technical topics, between the client and E&C and ensure that all client technical requirements are being addressed properly by E&C.
- Lead the identification and qualification of engineering partners for the proper execution of his/her project. Take responsibility for the management and oversight of these partners, including change orders validation, quality compliance, schedule and costs associated with this scope. Be vigilant to protect the interests of AL E&C in front of this partner, with support of the contract/subcontract manager.
- Take ownership of the engineering quality process for the project. As such, organize and lead the engineering project meetings and project review meetings; define the necessary engineering coordination procedures, project documentation management procedures, discipline-specific processes to be implemented and approve general project specifications.
- Be responsible for all project engineering KPIS (man-hour consumption, engineering progress, quantities, schedule related KPIs).
- Participate in risk assessment and suggest risk mitigation actions.
- Participate in negotiations with client.
- Ensure the compliance with AL E&C rules and systems and with any applicable external rules and guidelines.
- Provide exceptional service in Site Activities (construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning) execution with timely start-up without incident.
- Manage and monitor project performance on an ongoing basis to identify issues and opportunities at an early stage and take preventive action accordingly.
- Monitor and control all cost aspects of the project to forecast costs, identify trends and take proactive action to avoid cost overruns and take advantage of opportunities.
- Identify and monitor closure of project risks and opportunities, maintaining the risk management focus throughout the project duration.
- Accurate, timely & effective progress reporting to Management Team.
- Manage effectively client and supplier contracts (changes, close-out ect.).
- Work with team members to visibly support and comply to the AL E&C Safety First policy and ensure that HSE requirements are followed by all project participants.
- Prepare and conduct the capitalization review.
Are you a MATCH?
- Engineer Diploma (science or engineering).
- At least 10+ years demonstrable relevant experience in international Project Management with similar EPC/PMC contractors within the Oil and Gas Sector, out of which the last 5 years must have been as a Project Director managing an EPC/PMC or a Project Engineering Management position (EM) in very large industrial EPC projects (Energy, Mining, Process industry…).
- Broad understanding of the business drivers for oil and gas clients.
- Knowledge of the complete Project Cycle, understanding essential areas such as Construction, Procurement, Engineering and Processes, with a focus on technical engineering as well as project management methods. Knowledge of the material management processes, from the design and 3D modeling to the procurement and ideally till the installation on site.
- Nice to have: Experience as Field Engineering or site construction engineer.
- Analytical & Strategic thinking to take quickly and effectively the right decisions from the available information.
- Strong negotiation skills in dealing with Suppliers and/or EPC Contractors while exercising absolute control on the work.
- Team player with strong influential leadership skills, interpersonal skills and drive to manage, direct and guide multicultural teams to achieve the project objectives.
- Strong Safety orientation (demonstrable commitment to HSE Management in a project environment).
- Results oriented with proven cost and budget management abilities.
- Autonomy in decision making.
- Proven ability to manage priorities and work under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- English proficiency is a must.
- Proficiency in German language would be an asset.
- Ability to travel to worldwide locations, with travel required approximately 25-30% of the time, depending on project needs.
