The Mobile Apps Team specialise in Android and iOS application development, and are responsible for the development and improvement of the Service NSW mobile apps and digital licences within the apps.

About the role
You will support the development of the mobile app and digital licence products within an agile product team. You will contribute to an effective software engineering team culture to support the development of reliable and scalable customer-facing applications, including associated backend systems.
Key responsibilities include
- Assist in the development, technical design, deployment and operation of features and improvements for our products and services.
- Work with engineers, product managers, designers and leadership teams to maintain a high level of quality in a fast-paced and iterative environment.
- Drive efficiency by designing products that work at scale, reducing duplication and optimising development and delivery pipelines.
Your skills and experience
- Rich software engineering background, including experience in full stack software development with exposure to a broad range of technologies. Experience in, or desire to learn, Extreme Programming (XP), including Test Driven Development and Pair Programming, and willingness to spread the values, principles and practices underpinning this approach.
- Collaboration: Strong product mindset, having worked closely with cross-disciplinary product teams in agile environments.
- Excellent understanding of systems thinking and technical design - we'd love to see some experience applying technical design skills in large or complex ecosystems

- Excellent understanding of key aspects of software development, including the design and testing of software.
- Security-minded. You have a passion for security by design, and exposure to or interest in security engineering as concept.
- Customer-focused and engaged: You communicate effectively, manage stakeholders well, and take ownership of delivering valuable outcomes for those who use your software.
- Proficient in mobile application development, with a working knowledge of mobile application design and development, and a passion for working closely with both designers and engineers to create excellent mobile customer experiences.
Your technical skills
- Proficient in one or more modern programming languages and frameworks such as Kotlin, Java (Springboot or Android), JavaScript/TypeScript (React.js, Angular.js, Node.js or React Native), and / or Golang, along with modern testing frameworks.
- Proficient in both frontend and backend application development, including accessible frontend interface building, API design and cloud data storage technologies.
- Proficient in deploying and operating containerised infrastructure in one or more modern cloud environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
- Mobile frontend development skills, with knowledge of React Native, Android and / or iOS tech stacks.
We take a cloud-native approach building most of our services in the cloud and hosted in container orchestration platforms. The majority of our digital services are bespoke applications, leveraging shared services to ensure cost effectiveness and scalability.

At Service NSW we use XP practices (including TDD, pair programming and CI/CD) to design and build fast, stable software and release it to our customers quickly. We are committed to iterative delivery using the build, measure, learn paradigm and we pride ourselves on being responsive to customers' needs.
Our teams collaborate to design and implement the right solutions, applying lean problem-solving to deliver value within a complex ecosystem.
Support office roles will be headquartered across McKell, Parramatta and Gosford. We will consider role headquarters outside of the above locations where the role can reasonably be performed from that location taking into consideration the operational, financial and customer requirements of the role, and an ability to attend a NSW Government workplace as required. At the point an employee is notified of our intention to assign them to a role, the relevant leader will discuss headquarter options.
Salary Service NSW Grade 7/8, with the base salary for this role starting at $102,899 base plus superannuation
