⏰ Contract Type: Full-Time
💰 Salary: Based on experience
NeoRonin Interactive is a young game development company focused on crafting hardcore games — experiences that respect the player’s intelligence and time investment.
We aim to deliver a deep, complex, and challenging game that demands dedication and rewards mastery. Our mission is guided by a clear set of principles: prioritizing core gameplay, embracing complexity, and targeting a committed audience that values skill-based progression and meaningful challenge.
We are currently developing a strategy game set in a stylized vision of future warfare — blending realistic combat simulation with bold design choices. We’re looking for a Game Designer to help shape our core gameplay mechanics and ensure that every system contributes meaningfully to a rich, rewarding player experience.
Responsibilities
- Translate high-level ideas and creative direction into actionable game elements.
- Design, prototype, and iterate on core gameplay features that support the game’s vision and UX goals.
- Collaborate with programmers, artists, and producers to ensure consistent and feasible implementation across disciplines.
- Communicate design intentions clearly through concise documentation and discussions.
- Use playtest results and feedback to refine mechanics, pacing, and challenge/reward balance.
- Maintain focus on our core design pillars such as challenge, depth, and player agency.
We’re a fast-moving startup — priorities can shift, so this role includes, but isn't limited to the responsibilities above. Adaptability and flexibility are key!
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Game Designer on shipped titles or in a professional game development setting.
- Strong grasp of systems design, gameplay loops, and balance for skill-based games.
- Ability to prototype, iterate, and clearly communicate complex game mechanics.
- Passion for playing and developing hardcore games.
- Fluent English (written and spoken).
- Bonus: Shipped complex strategy or simulation-heavy games.
Soft Skills Requirements
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Highly collaborative and comfortable working with interdisciplinary teams.
- Self-driven and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership over your work.
- Strong critical thinking and willingness to receive and give constructive feedback.
- Adaptable to a fast-paced, remote-first development environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
What We Offer
- Above-average salary for the Portuguese market.
- Flexible remote work options.
- A dynamic and challenging environment, with innovative and ambitious projects.
- Significant growth opportunities, including the potential to take on leadership roles in the future.
Application Process
The selection process consists of two interview stages:
1. Personal Interview – To evaluate your motivation, profile, and soft skills, and to introduce you to our project.
