Freelance Data Scientist (Retail Customer Data Platform Modernisation)

Location: Berlin (Remote-first with occasional onsite travel)

Contract Length: 6–12 months

Day Rate: €750–€900/day

Project Overview

We’re partnering with a market-leading retail & e-commerce company based in Berlin as they modernise their Customer Data Platform (CDP) to enable real-time customer insights, personalised experiences, and scalable AI-driven segmentation.

This is a strategic transformation initiative powered by Databricks and a modern cloud-native data stack, offering a unique opportunity to shape how customer data is modelled, activated, and optimised across the business.

The role is remote-first with occasional travel to Berlin HQ (1–2 days/month).

Key Responsibilities

• Build machine learning models for real-time customer segmentation, churn prediction, and next-best-action scoring
• Optimise CDP architecture
• Leverage PySpark, MLflow, and Delta Lake to create clean, production-ready pipelines
• Implement identity resolution and behavioural analytics using first-party and third-party data
• Work closely with CRM, marketing, and digital product teams to drive personalisation use cases
• Support integration of CDP with cloud-based activation platforms and marketing tools

Key Requirements

• Strong experience with Databricks, PySpark, MLflow, and customer data modelling
• Solid understanding of CLTV, churn, segmentation, and personalisation frameworks
• Python & SQL expertise with a cloud-native mindset (Azure)
• Familiarity with CDP platforms, data privacy, and marketing technology (e.g., Adobe, Salesforce, Bloomreach) is a plus
• Retail experience required
• Fluent German (B2+) essential
• Must be based in Berlin or surrounding region
