As a Technical Game Designer II on Riftbound, you'll be working in open design spaces to help define the direction of an exciting new gaming experience. As a Technical Designer specializing in systems and gameplay, you will be responsible for implementing rich features that will delight players around the world and keep them engaged. You’ll design and implement tools on Riftbound. You will report to the Game Director.
Responsibilities:
- Understand the relevant audiences for the game, and from this, calibrate your design expertise to reflect appropriate taste for these audiences
- Use data and sense-making to identify opportunities to improve the health of the game through cards
- Articulate and consider a scope and depth of possible solutions, including possible effects, and collaboratively reach the best solution
- Discover solutions conceptually through rapid prototyping
- Implement card content and iterate on it through playtesting
- Create tools and improve pipelines that amplify the quality and velocity of your fellow designers
- As needed, act as a tools engineer no more than 50% of the time (generally closer to 35%, with some weeks at 0% and occasional emergencies near 100%)
- Be a bridge between designers and engineers, and an advocate for both solid implementation and high design velocity
- 2+ years of experience in professional game design, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience in professional engineering or technical game design, or equivalent experience
- Proficiency with Python
- Experience designing and implementing systems in large, ambiguous spaces
- Experience leading development on features in a rapid development environment
- Experience with balancing product goals with design decisions
- Professional experience developing in unreal
- Professional experience developing in C++ or other early-binding compiled languages
- Experience with both gameplay and systems design
- Experience working on TCGs or other PVP strategy card games
- Experience mentoring other designers
