Assistant Director IT Architecture

Purpose:

This role is responsible for providing a holistic view of current and future technology architecture and execute accordingly, in alignment with Ooredoo Qatar technology strategy and Ooredoo Group, and monitor and safeguard the defined architecture in the execution of all technology products.

Functional Context:

The Technology Unit within Ooredoo is the backbone of the organization providing all technology services which enable Ooredoo to deliver its services to its customers across all technology platforms, 24/7/365. In other words, it's responsible for the management of all Ooredoo networks, technology infrastructure/ platforms and processes to achieve fast time to-market, high operational efficiency, and support product/service innovation, and ultimately drive the financial performance of Ooredoo. The department owns the holistic view of current and future technology architecture and executes accordingly, in alignment with OQ technology strategy and Ooredoo Group, and monitors and safeguards the defined architecture in the execution of all technology products

Role Accountabilities:

• Holds a holistic view of technology architecture and ensures alignment among IT, IaaS, Network, Data architects via:

• Tracks industrial trends.

• Evaluates global best practices.

• Engages with key vendors on tech roadmaps.

• Attends key telco tech conferences.

• Leads the development of IT, IaaS, Network, Data architecture in alignment with Ooredoo’s strategic plan and Ooredoo Group.

• Provides input and directs CTIO sub-departments on future vision of respective departments in terms of emerging technologies (3–5-year view) such as:

• Provides direction to SOC on advanced technologies (machine learning and big data driven fault management & prediction).

• Inputs on future NW arch. roadmap & emerging enabling technologies (self organizing network -SON-) to Active unit.

• Provides guidance on next gen technologies to IaaS unit (containerisation, NFV & SDN).

• Designs end-end IT solutions and provides vision of future Software stack architecture.

• Gives input on latest DM tools& automation to Demand and technical Project Management.

• Provides inputs to commercial BUs on emerging tech (3-5 years) and discuss potential commercialization / productization.

• Leads the documentation of current technology architecture and the definition of architecture principles, to be blueprint, guidelines & technology standards in conjunction with all Technology division heads and Ooredoo Group.

• Ensures the application of these principles, guidelines and standards to all technology products through monitoring and reporting on their execution.

• Supports CTIO in approving technology designs (in consultation with relevant division heads within Technology BU) for products that result in major changes to existing platforms/ applications and ensures alignment with technology architecture.

• Anticipates and reacts to major technology changes to support the maintenance of company leadership in the market.

• Leads the process for monitoring and management of own department KPIs in order to meet defined targets and manages timely reporting of KPIs to Performance Management.

• Understands financial implications of architecture roadmaps and decisions.

• Serves as a subject matter expert and provides a single point of contact for all issues relating to technology architecture for other BUs in Ooredoo.

• Responsible and accountable for keeping technology/architectural blueprints updated.

• Lead architecture review boards meeting at technology BU level

Minimum Entry Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering or Similar.

Minimum Experience, Essential Knowledge & Skills:

12 years' experience in a similar role.

Relevant experience in engineering, IT and telecom in the Telecommunications industry

Relevant experience in creating comprehensive application, infrastructure, and network architecture for software solutions, while providing strategic direction throughout the delivery process
