Position Overview
BalsamWest is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Jr. Network Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will support the monitoring, maintenance, and operational performance of our telecommunications network infrastructure. This position plays a key part in ensuring high availability and reliability of services through proactive monitoring, timely issue resolution, and exceptional customer support. The ideal candidate will possess a foundational understanding of network operations, strong communication skills, and a desire to learn and grow in a dynamic technical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor network systems, infrastructure, and performance metrics for alarms, errors, and capacity issues.
- Perform initial triage and troubleshooting; escalate issues as necessary to appropriate teams or vendors.
- Respond to inbound calls from carrier customers, internal departments, and field operations teams.
- Deliver excellent internal and external customer service in alignment with service level agreements (SLAs).
- Update clients, vendors, and third-party providers on the status of service events and incidents.
- Document all activities accurately in the trouble ticketing system.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues.
- Track service performance and proactively identify and address potential problem areas.
- Assist Network Engineers with installation and configuration of network equipment and customer premises equipment (CPE).
- Provision Ethernet and PON services.
- Conduct system health checks and monitor network capacity.
- Perform cabling and hardware installation tasks as needed.
- Participate in on-call rotations and work evening/weekend shifts as required.
- Support additional projects or responsibilities as assigned by management.
- Basic knowledge of network operations, topologies, and protocols (TCP/IP).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proficiency with Windows OS and Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, clients, and external partners.
- Experience using network monitoring tools and alarm/event management systems.
- Comfortable handling calls in a professional and courteous manner.
- Industry certifications such as CCT/CENT, CCNA, CCIE, JNCIA, or Network+.
- Experience with ticketing systems.
- Knowledge of SNMP and network monitoring platforms.
- Understanding of power systems, cabling, and facility maintenance.
- Previous customer service experience in a technical environment.
