Java Software Engineer

For one of our banking clients we are looking for a Medior Java Developer to join our growing team in Utrecht. If you thrive in a hybrid environment, enjoy clean code, and have a knack for building scalable backend systems with Spring Boot, this could be a great match.

You’ll work in a collaborative, cross-functional team that values quality, ownership, and continuous improvement. We need someone who can hit the ground running with Java, Spring Boot, and Maven, and who has a basic understanding or curiosity for DevOps practices (think CI/CD, containers, cloud).

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Contribute to the software development lifecycle from concept to deployment.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, and product managers.
• Manage project dependencies using Maven.
• Participate in code reviews and share your knowledge with the team.
• Support basic DevOps processes, such as CI/CD pipeline integration or containerization.
• Help maintain a healthy codebase with testing, monitoring, and automation in mind.

What You Bring

• 2–5 years of experience in backend development with Java.
• Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot and Maven.
• Familiarity with REST APIs, microservices architecture, and relational databases.
• A proactive mindset and interest in DevOps principles (e.g., CI/CD, Docker, cloud deployment).
• Good communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus).
• A collaborative attitude and the ability to work well in hybrid teams.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with tools like Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, or GitLab CI.
• Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Unit/integration testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, etc.).
