Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Senior Data Scientist for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Ukraine.

Our client is a Washington, DC-based cybersecurity company that develops advanced solutions for real-time network threat detection and visibility. Their patented AI-powered technology analyzes just 1% of network traffic to deliver full visibility and detect potential threats without the need for additional agents or sensors. The system is designed to integrate seamlessly with on-premises, cloud, or hybrid infrastructures, offering scalable protection with minimal resource use. Their solutions serve smart cities, enterprises, and service providers, enabling proactive defense against modern cyber threats.

We are looking for a Data Scientist to join the team. In this role, you will:

  • Work with large-scale network data.
  • Build and improve predictive models.
  • Apply advanced analytics, machine learning, and statistical methods to detect and prevent cyber threats.
  • Contribute to the development of next-generation cybersecurity defense tools.

Project Overview

  • Goal:
  • Transform large-scale location data into valuable, actionable insights.
  • Develop ML and Gen AI algorithms for location-based products.
  • Build scalable, production-ready models for regression, classification, clustering, and anomaly detection.
  • Drive innovation by applying statistical and machine learning techniques to real-world behavior patterns.
  • Team:
  • Cross-functional team of Data Scientists and Engineers.
  • Collaborative environment focused on research, prototyping, and productionization.
  • Strong focus on mathematical rigor, scalability, and system performance.
  • Works closely with product and customer-facing teams to translate business problems into data solutions.
  • Scope:
  • Daily processing of terabytes of location data.
  • Coverage of hundreds of millions of points of interest across the US and Canada
  • Integration of billions of geospatial signals.
  • Projects span algorithm development, data quality assessment, hypothesis testing, and model deployment.
  • Technology Stack:
  • Python, Scala, Spark, Hadoop.
  • Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Gen AI.
  • Probabilistic Graphical Models, Active Learning, Bayesian Statistics.
  • Graphical Data Structures, Functional Programming.
  • Outcomes:
  • Scalable and efficient algorithms ready for production.
  • Technical and functional documentation of models and findings.
  • Clear communication of results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ownership and delivery of end-to-end data science solutions with minimal guidance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a quantitative field, or a Master’s with 5+ years’ experience in a data science role.
  • Experience with ML, Gen AI, Deep Learning, Probabilistic Graphical Models, Active Learning, Anomaly Detection, Image Classification.
  • Experience with Scala, Spark, Python, AB testing, Bayesian statistics, Graphical Data Structures, and Functional Programming.
  • Extensive background in math or statistics.
  • Experience owning multiple large projects/data products.
  • Completing all research/design from an initial question to a proof of concept ready for productionization efficiently.
  • Documenting all findings, processes, and use cases for both a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Spoken English – min Upper Intermediate.
  • Daily meetings with the client in the morning EST.
  • Work hours extend until approximately 9:00 PM UA time.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and implement ML and Gen AI algorithms.
  • Design and prototype of scalable algorithms.
  • Assess the quality of new datasets for downstream processing.
  • Create functional and technical documentation of analyses, findings, and prototypes.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to productionize prototypes.
  • Communicate results to teams within the organization and to customers.
  • Find creative solutions to business problems and develop them into products.
  • Own and drive projects with minimal guidance.
