Senior Core Network Engineer

About the Role:

We are looking for a Sr. Technical Engineer with a solid background in Core Network (CS Core & VAS) and working knowledge of PS Core to join our client, a leading global player in the telecommunications sector. You will provide L2 support for critical telecom platforms, including signaling protocols, billing, charging systems, and value-added services (VAS), ensuring high service availability and incident resolution for enterprise clients.

This is a hands-on role with direct interaction with customers, internal engineering teams, and vendors. The ideal candidate has strong troubleshooting skills, Core/VAS expertise, and a proactive, service-oriented mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide L2 troubleshooting and diagnostics for Core Network and VAS platforms (CS/PS).

Analyze, resolve, and document technical incidents, ensuring minimal downtime for the customer.

Support emergency situations under 24/7 on-call rotations.

Organize and participate in technical bridge calls with customer and internal teams.

Coordinate with internal teams (L1, L3, NOC) and external partners (MNOs, ISPs, ILD/NLD carriers).

Implement temporary workarounds and follow through with permanent fixes (RCA).

Assist in deployment/configuration of hardware, virtual machines, OS, RAID, HA modules.

On-site coordination (if needed) for structured cabling, rack mounting, powering, IP allocation, etc.

Maintain updated documentation of contact details, platform configurations, known issues, and SOPs.

Ensure SLAs are consistently met or exceeded.

Required Technical Skills:

Core Network Protocols (CS & PS):

CS Core: MAP, CAMEL, INAP, SMPP, SS7/SIGTRAN

PS Core: Diameter, GPRS, knowledge of PCRF, OCS

Value-Added Services (VAS): SMSC, MMSC, voicemail, billing, and charging platforms

Network Elements: OCS, PCRF, Kafka, Zookeeper, Tomcat

CDR & Billing Analysis: Strong understanding of telecom CDRs and charging flows

Operating Systems & Scripting:

Linux/Solaris (mandatory), Shell scripting

Python scripting (preferred)

Databases: Oracle, MySQL – strong skills in SQL queries and troubleshooting

Tools & Platforms: Wireshark, Postman, Jenkins, Ansible

API Integration: Familiarity with REST APIs and automated workflow testing

Candidate Profile:

Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field

4–6 years of experience in a similar L2 support role in a telecom operator or managed services environment

Proven experience in incident management, RCA documentation, and cross-functional collaboration

Advanced English (B2/C1) – mandatory for daily communication with U.S. clients

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):

Exposure to 3G/4G/5G core environments

Familiarity with edge computing, IoT applications, or AI-driven telecom platforms

Experience supporting hybrid cloud/on-prem infrastructure
