High profile media company looking for Software Engineering Manager to manage team of 10

You'll be joining a high-profile media company based in Sydney CBD. The organisation has a great reputation for developing long-term careers and offers a flexible and supportive working environment. The company primarily develops consumer-facing applications and has a great team comprising talented engineers.

Your new role

The role will be 60% management, 40% hands-on. Reporting to the Head of Technology, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful development & release of high-quality applications, on budget and within agreed timeframes. You will be responsible for managing a team of 8 Software Engineers, most of them being Mid-Senior level.

Management responsibilities;

• Work with the Head of Technology to design and deliver a technology strategy for your team
• Conduct one-on-one weekly catchups with team members
• Train, mentor and develop Software Engineers
• Conduct regular code reviews and coaching sessions
• Contribute to technical discussions with head of technology
• Identify bottlenecks in team productivity and come up with solutions

Hands on / technical responsibilities;

• Write clean, scalable code with quality testing processes
• Adhere to Agile delivery best practice
• Development of a scalable system architecture design that aligns to support delivery of the business strategy.

What you'll need to succeed

• Minimum 2+ years experience as a Team Lead / Engineering Manager. The company is open to a Team Lead who is ready to step up, or equally an EM who is managing a smaller team.
• Experience in multiple languages - PHP & Javascript experience would be ideal but will also consider; Java, .Net
• Solutions-focussed approach to Software Engineering
• Good experience in DevOps, AWS, Serverless
• Great stakeholder engagement skills and experience
• Proven track record of mentoring, training and hiring engineers of all levels
• Experience in consumer-facing applications, media or e-commerce would be a huge plus.
