With multiple locations across Canberra, and nationwide, the organisation seeks only the most skilled and professional individuals to assist them in developing programs, policies and initiatives that will improve the quality of life for vulnerable Australians.

The Role

Our client is seeking an Accessibility Expert to provide ongoing improvement of future digital products and help achieve outcomes for external stakeholders. The successful candidate will focus primarily on the research, design, and development phases of the product lifecycle.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support user researchers, developers, and designers in creating accessible digital products and systems throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Provide high-quality advice on user behaviour, digital accessibility, and assistive technologies to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to usability testing with people with disabilities, including staff and participants.

Essential Criteria

  • Practical knowledge of accessibility across responsive web, native Android, and iOS apps, including platform-specific guidelines (Material Design and Apple Accessibility Guidelines).
  • Proficiency in ARIA and WAI-ARIA specifications, applying accessibility best practices to complex UI components and ensuring compliance with WCAG standards.
  • Understanding of how people with disabilities use digital products and systems, including knowledge of assistive technologies such as screen readers, speech-to-text applications, and screen magnifiers.
  • Skilled in identifying accessibility barriers in user journeys, wireframes, designs (Axure/Figma), and prototypes, as well as reviewing front-end code to embed accessibility from the discovery and design phase.
  • Ability to conduct accessibility validation testing using assistive technology tools to meet accessibility standards.
