Astrolight's mission is to connect Earth and Space with high speed laser links, uncovering unprecedented capabilities for satellite connectivity and deep space exploration. Founded in 2019, the company aims to provide end-to-end optical connectivity solutions by building complete and self-contained hardware for ground and space operational domains. Astrolight produces energy-efficient optical communication terminals for Space-to-Earth links, ship-to-ship communication, and ground-based systems in aerospace and defense applications.
Role Overview
Join our multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electronics, software, and optical engineers to develop advanced laser communication terminals for ground, navy, and space-based systems. As an FPGA Engineer, you will play an important role in realizing Astrolight’s vision of high-throughput, low-latency, and secure optical communication networks for satellites in low Earth orbit.
Responsibilities
- Implement logic designs and signals processing algorithms for communication systems using HDL
- Integrate designed and 3rd party IP Cores onto FPGA/SoC platforms
- Analyze RTL design for timing optimization
- Develop re-usable Testbenches and Verification Environments
- Debug and solve arising issues in designed FPGA/SoC systems
- Prepare documentation for designed FPGA/SoC systems
Qualifications (Must have)
- Demonstrated experience with Hardware Description Languages: VHDL (preferred) or Verilog
- Experience writing testbenches in VHDL or System Verilog
- Knowledge of clocking architectures, synchronization, and CDC methodology
- Experience of reaching timing closure by defining timing constraints using Synopsys Design Constraint files
- Experience using FPGA Debug tools, like integrated logic analyzer, etc.
- Experience using laboratory equipment (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, logic analyzer, etc.)
Qualifications (Nice to have)
- Knowledge of C and a scripting language; experience with Python, TCL is a plus
- Experience using modern testing frameworks like cocotb or equivalent
- Knowledge of working with Microchip PolarFire devices and development platforms
- Familiarity with FEC (forward error correction) algorithms
- Ability to read and interpret PCB schematics
What We Offer
- Stock options package.
- Opportunity to work in a small, highly skilled team.
- Hands-on experience in the rapidly evolving space industry.
- Direct impact without corporate bureaucracy.
