Position: BDA Geospatial Analyst (Level 1/Associate Entry Level and Level 2/Practitioner)

Organisation: Australian Hydrographic Office (AHO)

Location: Australian Hydrographic Office, 8 Station Street Wollongong NSW

Salary: AUD 75 to 100 per hour

Note: MUST be an Australian Citizen holding minimum Baseline Security Clearance (NV1 will be a bonus)

Position Overview

A GIS Data Analyst is required for generation and maintenance of foundation bathymetric data, including: extract-transform-load (ETL) functions, quality assessment and attribution, geospatial process implementation and improvement, geospatial analysis and generation of supporting documentation. This data is a critical input to capability and the generation of Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) and other Defence products, as well as a key element in data analysis conducted to inform the HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program (HIPP) collection priorities and survey extents.

The GIS Data Analyst will work with AHO databases and software, including Mediaflux, CARIS BASE Editor / Bathy DataBASE and ESRI ArcGIS Pro to locate, extract, assess, transform and load data, with associated quality control and attribution. This data will then be integrated with other data sources to produce the foundation bathymetry for an area, including comparison against existing datasets or products and resolving any data conflicts.

Additional geospatial analysis tasks may also be undertaken to inform data collection requirements, database comparisons, reporting and process enhancement.

To be successful in this role, you shall have the following skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of best practices in data integration, transformation, optimisation, management and dissemination using geospatial data and services;
  • Understanding of spatial data types;
  • Understanding of relational databases, database design and data modelling;
  • Understanding and experience in data integration;
  • Understanding and experience in building spatial data models optimised for visualisation and analysis; and
  • Understanding of statistical analysis; including geo-statistical analysis.
