About The Project

Nautilus is a student-led initiative within ARIS, developing an autonomous Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) to support climate research in the Arctic and ultimately on Icy Moons. Through interdisciplinary teamwork and engineering innovation, we aim to design, build, and test a glider capable of collecting vital environmental data under extreme conditions.

🔧 Role Overview: Software Member

As a software team member, you will contribute to developing and testing the software onboard the vehicle. From embedded systems to navigation and data visualization, your software will bring the vehicle to life!

🛠️ Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and test code independently
  • Manage and interface with code from other members using GitHub
  • Attend bi-weekly team meetings and weekly co-working sessions

📚 Preferred Skills & Experience

  • General Focus:
    • Knowledge of Object-Oriented Languages, preferably C++ or Python (Java is acceptable). An understanding of Data types, classes, and functions (Bonus: Understanding of the language’s memory model)
    • Have experience with data structures and Algorithms: Sorting algorithms, hashing (including hashing algorithms), heaps, stacks, queues, and trees.
    • Be able to work independently and have a strong motivation to learn new concepts
  • Embedded Systems focus:
    • Be comfortable using the terminal and scripting
    • Basic knowledge of the structure and functioning of memory in computers
    • Basic knowledge of operating systems, especially Linux
    • Fundamentals of networking
  • State Estimation and Localization focus:
    • Comfortable with Linear Algebra
    • Basic knowledge of state spaces.
    • Bonus: Had at least one lecture on Control systems
  • Control focus:
    • Had at least one lecture on Control systems
    • Bonus: Practical experience with control loops
  • Web interface focus:
    • Experience or motivation to learn Web Development
    • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
    • Bonus: Basic Knowledge of Vue
