Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Level 2 NOC (Network Operations Center) Engineer to join our IT operations team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in network and system troubleshooting, with a strong ability to handle more complex incidents and escalations. The L2 NOC Engineer will serve as the escalation point for L1 engineers and will be responsible for deeper investigation and resolution of network and system issues, contributing to the overall stability and performance of the IT infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Incident Management and Resolution:
    • Act as the primary escalation point for L1 NOC Engineers, taking ownership of more complex incidents and problems.
    • Perform advanced troubleshooting on network, server, and application issues, including root cause analysis.
    • Resolve incidents within defined service level agreements (SLAs), ensuring minimal downtime and disruption.
  • Monitoring and Alert Response:
    • Continuously monitor network and system performance using advanced monitoring tools, identifying trends and potential issues before they impact the business.
    • Respond to high-priority alerts and incidents, coordinating with L1 engineers and other IT teams to ensure timely resolution.
  • Configuration and Change Management:
    • Implement configuration changes on network devices, servers, and applications as part of incident resolution or planned maintenance.
    • Participate in change management processes, ensuring that changes are well-documented and compliant with organizational policies.
  • Performance Optimization:
    • Analyze network and system performance data to identify areas for improvement, implementing optimizations to enhance reliability and efficiency.
    • Work with other IT teams to optimize configurations and improve the overall performance of the IT infrastructure.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
    • Create and maintain detailed documentation for troubleshooting procedures, network configurations, and incident resolution processes.
    • Provide training and mentorship to L1 NOC Engineers, sharing knowledge and best practices to improve the team's overall capability.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with L3 engineers, network architects, and other IT teams on complex projects and incidents, ensuring a coordinated approach to problem resolution.
    • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, providing updates on incident status and resolution efforts.
  • Shift Work and On-Call Support:
    • Participate in a 24/7 shift rotation, providing round-the-clock support for critical IT operations.
    • Be available for on-call support during off-hours and weekends, responding to urgent incidents as needed.
Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in network operations, system administration, or a similar role within a NOC environment.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs), as well as experience with network devices (routers, switches, firewalls) and server administration (Windows/Linux).
  • Monitoring Tools: Proficiency with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, Zabbix) and experience in analysing logs and performance data.
  • Troubleshooting: Advanced troubleshooting skills for network and system issues, including root cause analysis and problem resolution.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ITIL processes, particularly in incident, problem, and change management.
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automating routine tasks and enhancing troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and related monitoring tools (e.g., AWS, Azure).
