Senior Platform Engineer (Linux Specialist)

Job Description:

We are looking for a motivated Senior Platform Engineer with a strong focus on Linux automation, using Infrastructure as code and Shell scripting, and experience with VMware and Azure. You will play a critical role in improving the efficiency of our processes, implementing automations, managing infrastructure, and enhancing the scalability of our systems. This position demands extensive hands-on technical experience, excellent interpersonal skills, and strong communication abilities.

Responsibilities:

Design and implement robust and scalable CI/CD systems using Gitlab for frequent releases based on business needs.

Utilize Bash Shell scripting for the development and implementation of automation solutions, to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency.

Utilize configuration management tools such as Ansible (preferred), Puppet, or Chef to ensure consistent and repeatable system configurations.

Use Terraform for infrastructure as code to automate the setup, modification, and management of environments on VMware vSphere and Azure.

Establish operational processes and automate routine tasks for our growing distributed platform.

Monitor systems, applications, and potential vulnerabilities, ensuring they meet the highest standards using tools like Data dog, Prometheus, and VMware's native monitoring tools.

Continuously update the knowledge base and create new technical documentation.

Administer servers on a range of operating systems, including but not limited to Windows 2012 -2022, RedHat, Ubuntu, and CentOS.

Experience working containers and Kubernetes platforms i.e Rancher and OpenShift.

Monitor reports from various system tools and resolve any issues that are identified.

Work with cross-functional teams to identify areas for automation and implement changes.

Cloud Automation experience for full deployment.

Develop automation workflow for system deployment.

Develop application for reporting and tracking.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

ITIL Foundation Certificate or equivalent.

5+ years of hands-on platform engineer/Linux Administrator experience with a strong emphasis on Linux automation.

Extensive experience in Bash Shell and system administration tasks.

Relevant certifications (e.g., RHCE, LFCS, Ansible Certified Specialist).

Proficient with configuration management tools such as Ansible and Puppet.

Significant experience with VMware, including vSphere and PowerCLI.

Familiarity with database tools like MYSQL and Elasticsearch.

Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation.

Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment.
