What You Will Do

  • Animate 2D characters, props, and UI using Spine, including rigging, IK, and mesh deformation.
  • Design and implement dynamic 2D VFX (hit sparks, spell effects, UI glows, etc.) using flipbooks and sprite sheets.
  • Integrate animations and VFX into Unity (URP), working closely with developers to ensure smooth performance.
  • Optimize assets for mobile; reducing overdraw, batching smartly, and minimizing texture use.
  • Build reusable animation and FX templates to support faster iteration across the team.
  • Iterate quickly based on feedback and gameplay needs to enhance responsiveness and visual clarity.


Who You Are

  • Expert - highly skilled in Spine animation, from rigging and IK systems to mesh deformation and expressive motion.
  • Dynamic - capable of crafting punchy 2D VFX like hit sparks, spell effects, UI glows, and atmospheric loops that amplify gameplay.
  • Gameplay-focused - every animation and FX you create enhances clarity, responsiveness, and player immersion.
  • Experienced - comfortable animating characters, props, UI, and backgrounds in Spine and integrating them directly into Unity.
  • Stylized - fluent in flipbook FX and sprite-based animation, with a strong sense of timing and visual flair.
  • Iterative - quick to prototype, responsive to feedback, and always exploring new creative solutions.
  • Collaborative - work hand-in-hand with developers and designers to ensure seamless visuals and performance in Unity (URP).
  • Optimized - skilled at creating mobile-friendly assets by minimizing overdraw, reducing texture size, and batching smartly.
  • Efficient - able to build reusable animation and FX templates that streamline team workflows.
  • Communicative - confident in English, open to critique, and clear when discussing visual direction or technical needs.
  • Feel-driven - obsessed with game feel, timing, and those subtle details that make an animation truly satisfying.


Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in 2D game animation and VFX.
  • Advanced proficiency in Spine 2D.
  • Strong grasp of core animation principles (timing, squash & stretch, follow-through, etc.).
  • Proficiency in After Effects and flipbook-based FX workflows.
  • Familiarity with Unity, including VFX integration and particle systems.
  • Experience with game UI animation
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop for preparing animation assets
  • Excellent understanding of performance optimization for mobile games
  • Solid English skills: able to explain and defend creative choices clearly
  • You actively play games and think critically about why they feel great


Bonus Points

  • Experience with Unity VFX Graph or Shader Graph
  • Background in illustration, concept art, or 2D visual development
  • Understanding of 2D lighting, normal maps, or stylized shader techniques
  • Interest in UX animation and gameplay feedback loops
