Vice President of UAS Engineering - Europe
Summary
Edge Autonomy is seeking an experienced and innovative Vice President of Engineering to oversee the engineering activities our European division in the development of Uncrewed Air Systems (UASs). The job will specifically focus on the development of Edge Autonomy’s Penguin series of UAS. This role requires a strong background in aircraft and uncrewed system design, particularly with expertise in high-endurance, payload-optimized autonomous air platforms. The VP position will oversee all engineering projects across hardware, software, and systems engineering. This position demands both strategic technical vision and hands-on leadership, with a focus on advancing the capabilities of all variants of the Penguin UAS family to meet rigorous operational and mission requirements.

The job will specifically focus on the development of Edge Autonomy’s Penguin series of UAS. This role requires a strong background in aircraft and uncrewed system design, particularly with expertise in high-endurance, payload-optimized autonomous air platforms. The VP position will oversee all engineering projects across hardware, software, and systems engineering. This position demands both strategic technical vision and hands-on leadership, with a focus on advancing the capabilities of all variants of the Penguin UAS family to meet rigorous operational and mission requirements.
Responsibilities
As the Vice President of Engineering, you will:
- Lead a team of engineers and project managers to execute a variety of projects to upgrade and enhance the performance of the Penguin series of UAS.
- Manage multiple teams of engineers within the areas of hardware development, software development, and systems engineering.
- Oversee all aspects of system architecture and configuration management for the Penguin UAS configurations, ensuring that upgrades are fully documented and aligned with product roadmap.
- Work directly with the Program Management Organization (PMO) to capture existing and emerging requirements, field issues, and business opportunities and distill these items into specific engineering projects with well-defined scope, deliverables, and timeline.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to engineering team members, fostering a culture of excellence and mission-focused innovation.
Technical Skills:
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the development of uncrewed air systems.
- Expertise in UAS system architectures and designs, with specific domain knowledge of UAS subsystems, including propulsion, avionics, communications, ground control systems, and modular payload interfaces.
- Proficiency in configuration management practices, including documentation, tracking, and integration of multiple subsystems.
- Familiarity with flight testing and validation processes for complex UAS configurations, including endurance and payload testing.
- Required: 20 years of experience in aerospace, ISR, or defense contracting with 15 years of experience with Uncrewed Air Systems.
- Proven track record of managing and delivering high-performance engineering projects, ideally focused on endurance, modularity, or payload integration.
