Java Backend Development Engineer

Your role & work environment

You design, develop, test and deliver backend solutions that support ING Luxembourg’s digital services, ensuring performance, availability and security.

You will join one of our Agile Tribes, working in a collaborative DevOps environment alongside motivated professionals focused on continuous improvement and innovation.

Your Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain backend applications

• Design, implement and maintain Java-based applications using SpringBoot and SpringBatch.
• Write and execute automated tests (unit, integration, functional).
• Ensure code quality, performance, and security standards are met.
  
  

Support and improve payment systems

• Maintain and enhance the payment engine, including control rules and message flows.
• Resolve incidents related to payment applications.
• Act as IT Custodian for specific assets, ensuring compliance with IT Risk policies.
  
  

Collaborate and grow in an Agile environment

• Actively participate in Agile ceremonies and DevOps practices.
• Share knowledge and coach team members to foster a culture of continuous learning.
• Stay up to date with the latest technical trends and contribute to innovation.

As a Java Backend Development Engineer, you will also need:

• A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT and at least 5 years of experience in backend development.
• Ability to work in an Agile/DevOps environment
• Proficiency in Java, SpringBoot, SpringBatch, SQL, and REST APIs.
• Solid understanding of IT Security concepts: SSL/TLS, certificate management, password vault, encryption.
• Proficiency in Git, Maven, and Azure DevOps for source code and dependency management.
• Familiarity with IntelliJ, VSCode, and Linux (main OS), as well as Windows.
• Experience with Oracle databases; knowledge of Neo4J, Cassandra, and DB2 is an asset.
• Experience with Document Management Systems and Jasper Reports is a plus.
• Knowledge of ElasticSearch and Kibana is considered an additional advantage.
