Based on recent interviews, here are the manager comments - the candidates display too many technical skills on their resume but don't have the depth in most of them. They all say they have built powerBI dashboards, but when I go deeper with technical questions they fumble. Anyone can build a Power BI dashboard by dragging and dropping some fancy charts and graphs. But proficiency is determined by how well they can construct new metrics and measures with optimal performance and how well they can design them for executive audience. I would rather hire someone who has depth in PowerBI vs having touched many tools.

Finance Data Analytics Consultant

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Data Analytics Consultant to support Finance in a critical implementation of a EPM tool called OneStream and decommissioning existing Oracle-based Hyperion Financial Management (HFM). There is already a System Integrator (SI) and a project roadmap in place. The ideal candidate has experience in investment banking industry, is skilled in data validation and designing Power BI dashboards. This role requires both business and technical expertise, a meticulous approach to data accuracy, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams during a transformative phase.

Key Responsibilities:

• Partner with finance, IT and 3rd party system integrator (SI) to validate data integrity during the one-time data migration, ensuring accuracy in financial records, hierarchies, and reporting structures.
• Execute data validation and UAT test scripts provided by SI, reconciling discrepancies between legacy Hyperion data and OneStream outputs.
• Design, build, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards using data extracted from OneStream, to automate reporting and deliver actionable insights on revenue, expense, and balance sheet datasets.
• Train end-users on Power BI dashboards and OneStream reporting functionalities to support adoption.

Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, engineering or a related field
• 3+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or a related role in financial services industry
• Proficiency in BI tools especially PowerBI and SQL, and writing DAX code for complex measures or ETL
• Good understanding of databases and OLAP cubes, to ingest required data into PowerBI semantic layers
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Story-telling and presentation skills to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s in Data Analytics or a related field
• Knowledge of General Ledger concepts (profit/cost center, trade books, variable, allocated, direct expenses etc) at an investment bank
• Experience with EPM tools such as Hyperion and OneStream and ERP tools such as SAP

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, engineering or a related field
