Reporting to: Network & Security Lead / Infrastructure Manager
Job SummaryWe are hiring a skilled L2 Network & Security Engineer for a 2-year contractual assignment in Muscat, Oman. An L2 Network Engineer is responsible for providing second-level support for network issues, troubleshooting complex network problems, and maintaining network infrastructure. The role involves working on network configurations, resolving escalated issues, and ensuring the stability, performance, and security of enterprise networks.
Knowledge and experience with Cisco, Huawei, Fortinet, PaloAlto, Severs & Storage are considered a significant advantage.
Key Responsibilities· Provide L2 support for network and security incidents, service requests, and planned changes.
· Operate, monitor, and maintain enterprise-level networking and security devices, including Firewalls, switches, routers, VPNs, wireless controllers, IPS/IDS.
· Configure and troubleshoot Fortinet, Cisco, and Huawei network/security products.
· Implement and manage firewall rules, NAT policies, and segmentation controls.
· Coordinate with L3 teams and vendors for issue escalation and resolution.
· Maintain and update network diagrams, documentation, and configuration backups.
· Ensure compliance with security standards and organizational IT policies.
· Participate in change management and incident response procedures.
· Handle escalated network issues that cannot be resolved by L1 engineers.
· Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems involving LAN, WAN, and WLAN technologies.
· Diagnosing issues with routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.
· Perform advanced network configurations, including routing and switching protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.
· Configure and maintain, VPNs, and load balancers to ensure security and optimal performance.
· Use network management tools to monitor the performance of the network infrastructure, ensuring minimal downtime and identifying potential issues before they impact operations.
· Conduct regular checks and maintenance of network devices to ensure reliability.
· Lead the investigation and resolution of major network incidents and problems, ensuring proper root cause analysis and corrective actions.
· Document incident reports and maintain accurate records of all network-related incidents and actions taken.
· Optimize network performance by analyzing traffic patterns, bandwidth usage, and device configurations.
· Recommend and implement improvements to enhance network efficiency and reduce latency.
· Collaborate with other IT teams, including security, server, and cloud teams, to maintain a cohesive IT infrastructure.
· Work closely with vendors to resolve hardware or software issues and assist with network upgrades and installations.
· Ensure the network is compliant with security policies, performing regular audits, and updating firewall rules and configurations.
Required Qualifications - Mandatory· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, Electronics, or related field.
· 5+ years of relevant experience in network and security operations (L2 level).
· Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, etc.).
· Hands-on experience with:
- Fortinet Products (FortiGate, FortiAnalyzer, FortiManager, FortiSIEM, FortiNDR, FortiAuthenticator)
- Cisco (switches, routers, firewalls, wireless).
- Sophos Firewalls & Endpoints
- Huawei networking products (preferred).
· Experience with log analysis, alert triage, and security device troubleshooting.
· Proficiency in managing firewalls, VPN tunnels, NAT, and ACLs.
Certifications (Preferred but Not Mandatory)· Fortinet NSE 4 or higher (NSE 5–7 preferred).
· CCNP (Cisco Certified)
· PaloAlto
· F5 Experience
Contract Details· Duration: 2 Years (extendable based on performance and project requirements).
· Location: Onsite at client premises – Muscat, Oman.
· Working Hours: Standard business hours as per the Oman Law, with on-call support if required.
