Project Description:

ExxonMobil has a zero trust implementation where network entitlement rules are required to access applications from company devices .

Network entitlements include who has access, to what resource they have access, and how they are accessed via network ports.

The responsibility for these rules lies with the individual application owners (approximately 1,100 applications).

Currently, ExxonMobil has approximately 54k unused entitlements. These over-provisioned applications create increased infrastructure burden and pose a security risk for ExxonMobil's zero trust implementation.

This effort will entail reviewing network usage with application owners to optimize network entitlements and remove unnecessary rules.

Internally developed application used for entitlement process - AppModel

Detailed network information using Splunk

Network entitlement backend data is stored in Service Now

Approximately 1,100 applications with network entitlements

Responsibilities:

Details of the work:

Perform research with Splunk tools on a per application basis to reveal unused ports data for last ~30 days

Record findings for presentation to application owners

Meet application responsible to arrange a review of findings and create a remediation plan

Create follow up discussions with application owners to follow up on progress

Provide instruction where necessary to aid in managing entitlements using AppModel

Track remediation changes and overall progress

Communication template to address smaller application use cases

Mandatory Skills Description:

Technical Skills:

Network Architecture: Understanding network topologies, including LAN, WAN, and cloud networks, is fundamental.

Network Traffic Analysis: Expertise in analyzing network traffic with tools such as Splunk

Network Security: Knowledge of firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPNs, and other security protocols.

Soft Skills:

Communication: Effective communication, both written and verbal, is essential

Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and draw conclusions to inform decisions.

Nice-to-Have Skills Description:

Network Traffic Analysis: Expertise in analyzing network traffic with tools such as Splunk
