Description

As a Lead OpenTelemetry Developer, you

will be responsible for developing and

maintaining OpenTelemetry-based

solutions.

• You will work on instrumentation, data

collection, and observability tools to

ensure seamless integration and

monitoring of applications.

• This role involves writing documentation

and promoting best practices around

OpenTelemetry


Primary Responsibilities

Develop OpenTelemetry-Based Solutions: Work on solutions that integrate OpenTelemetry with various observability platforms.

Write Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation to help users instrument their applications with OpenTelemetry and get started with observability tools.

Improve Application Observability: Build dashboards and provide guidance on monitoring technologies covered by OpenTelemetry components.

Teach and Promote Best Practices: Educate teams and customers on best practices around OpenTelemetry, semantic conventions, and various technologies and frameworks

Coaches team members and leads teams as necessary.

Monitoring/Observability Specialty

Develops best-in-class monitoring frameworks for end-to-end flow monitoring and noiseless alerting, ensuring accurate and actionable telemetry.

Creates automated solutions for software and product upgrades, change management, and release management, enhancing stability, speed, and reliability across services.


Skills

• Experience in Instrumentation:

Expertise in at least one programming

language supported by OpenTelemetry

and a broad knowledge of other

languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go,

PowerShell, .NET)

• Passion for Observability: Strong

interest in observability and experience

in writing documentation and blog posts

to share knowledge.

• Technical Skills:

o Familiarity with tools and

technologies such as Prometheus,

Grafana, and other observability

platforms (E.g. Dynatrace,

AppDynamics (Splunk), Amazon

CloudWatch, Azure Monitor,

Honeycomb)

o Experience in Java instrumentation

techniques (e.g. bytecode

manipulation, JVM internals, Java

agents)

Business Knowledge

• Strong understanding of reliability and

production management, with a focus on

maintaining high availability and stability

across services.

• Risk-aware mindset with knowledge of key

operational risks in financial institutions,

applying this insight to develop resilient and

compliant solutions.

• Promotes a culture of continuous

improvement, driving proactive

enhancements in processes and systems

Experience

• Experience in system and software

security (SSO, Kerberos, LDAP, Windows

AD, etc.), ensuring robust identity and

access management.

• Application of engineering principles to

production management, supporting

scalable and efficient operations.

• Proven track record in automation,

effectively reducing manual work and

enhancing workflow productivity and

consistency.
