Java Engineer @ Fintech Building a New Lisbon Hub!

Lisbon – Hybrid

We’re hiring a Backend Java Engineer for our Lisbon tech hub to help evolve our Incentive Platform. You’ll build new features, maintain core logic and APIs, and modernise legacy code as we move toward a microservices architecture. You’ll work in a Java/Azure environmentwith exposure to CI/CD and DevOps, making a real impact at a fast-growing European fintech.

This is a great opportunity for an early to mid-level developer to build real-world experience and grow in a supportive, forward-thinking environment.

Your Role

• Develop new features and maintain our Java-based backend
• Refactor and migrate components to a modern microservice architecture
• Build APIs using Java, Spring Framework, and Spring Boot
• Develop integrations with third-party services
• Write automated unit and integration tests
• Mentor junior engineers and support their growth
• Contribute to code reviews and overall code quality

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in a Java Engineer capacity
• A strong understanding of security and performance considerations
• Experience building applications using Java, Spring and Spring Boot frameworks
• DevOps exposure (Agile, GitOps, CI/CD)
• Security and performance considerations
• Able to participate in technical design and planning discussions.

Bonus

• Node.JS and Express
• Public cloud engineering experience (Azure, AWS or GCP)
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CDK, Pulumi)
• Docker & Kubernetes
• UI/UX design experience
• Experience working with other programming languages like TypeScript, Rust, GoLang, Kotlin, Python etc.
• Experience designing, documenting and implementing both internal and public APIs.
• Experience working as part of an international team
