Data Architect - FREELANCE - 9 month initial contract - Helsinki, Finland

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Data Architect to join our client's team and help shape the future of our data architecture strategy. You’ll play a pivotal role in designing, guiding, and implementing robust data solutions aligned with enterprise goals, with a strong focus on federated and domain-driven data mesh principles.

You’ll work collaboratively across teams—engineering, governance, security, and executive stakeholders—to ensure data solutions are scalable, secure, compliant, and optimized for performance and cost.

Key Projects & Tasks

• Design scalable data architectures tailored to complex, regulatory scientific data rather than transactional volumes.
• Lead development of discoverable, secure, and interoperable domain-level data products.
• Architect and oversee data pipelines using Azure services (Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics).
• Optimize cloud data infrastructure and contribute to FinOps practices across Azure services.
• Influence enterprise-wide data modeling standards, enabling advanced analytics and AI/ML initiatives.
• Develop and maintain data governance frameworks, metadata practices, and cataloguing using Microsoft Purview.
• Ensure data quality and compliance through close collaboration with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams.
• Champion a cloud-native, product-thinking mindset in evolving enterprise data strategy.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years experience as a Data Architect or Senior Data Engineer with relevant project experience.
• Proven track record with Azure data services, data mesh concepts, and domain-driven design.
• Strong knowledge of data governance, privacy, and EU compliance regulations.
• Fluent English (minimum C1 CEFR level); excellent communicator and confident presenter.
• Comfortable drafting technical documents and participating in high-level stakeholder discussions.
