We are currently looking for a PA/QA Engineer to join the team in the Dwingeloo Area.
As a PA/QA Engineer you will be involved in the development of advanced optomechanical subsystems and scientific instrumentation for one of the most significant optical astronomy projects currently underway: a next-generation mid-infrared imager and spectrograph designed for operation on the world’s largest optical telescope.
The position involves contributing to a technologically complex, internationally coordinated project, where responsibility centers around ensuring the integrity of processes during design, manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing (MAIT) phases. Most technical development activities are carried out in the Netherlands, in collaboration with international partners. The role is based in Dwingeloo, with occasional travel to Leiden and project partners across Europe.
The position is available through at least September 2026, with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the overall quality framework, development procedures, and related documentation for the instrument
- Develop, maintain, and enforce protocols for design control, procurement, manufacturing, integration, and verification
- Manage configuration of hardware and documentation deliverables across all subsystems
- Lead and participate in reviews of subsystem readiness and compliance, ensuring alignment with system-level requirements
- Approve and manage verification matrices, supporting traceability and performance assurance
- Identify and implement improvements in quality assurance processes and tooling
- Serve on the Configuration Control Board (CCB) and Risk Management Board (RMB)
- Participate in acceptance reviews, system-level test preparation, and manual inspection activities
- Engage in regular system and subsystem design reviews with project stakeholders
- Travel is expected between Dwingeloo and Leiden, as well as to international partners (mainly within Europe)
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in quality and product assurance roles, preferably within high-precision instrumentation or aerospace domains
- Demonstrated expertise in implementing and managing Product Data Management systems (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter)
- Background in optical and/or infrared instrumentation; experience with cryogenic systems considered an advantage
- Strong competence in collaborative engineering environments involving multidisciplinary, multinational teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Proven ability to enforce high standards of quality, traceability, and compliance across complex engineering projects
