Lead game developer

Hacksaw Studios is a company that builds online games. Our games can be played both in social gaming and real money modes. We have wide distribution and our games are played by millions of people every month by players all over the world.

We are currently looking to expand our development team and are looking for a for a Lead Frontend Game Developer to guide and inspire our frontend game development. In this role, you'll be responsible not only for writing and reviewing code but also for setting the technical direction of the team, mentoring developers, and ensuring high-quality delivery of visually rich, smooth, and engaging gameplay experiences.

You'll collaborate closely with game designers, backend developers, and other stakeholders to bring games to life—handling everything from integrating visual assets and backend mechanics, to evolving our in-house framework and streamlining development processes.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of frontend game developers
• Collaborate with product and design teams to deliver new games and enhance existing ones
• Review code, guide decisions, and ensure code quality across projects
• Drive improvements in our in-house game development framework
• Promote best practices in frontend development, code reuse, performance optimization, and documentation
• Work with backend developers to ensure seamless integration between frontend visuals and backend mechanics
• Identify bottlenecks and propose scalable solutions for a growing portfolio of games
• Stay updated on industry trends and contribute ideas to enhance the player experience

Required Skills and Experience

• Solid experience in game development (minimum 4–5 years), with at least 1–2 years in a leadership or mentorship role
• Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar programming languages (e.g., C#, Java, Haxe)
• Experience in game development, visual integration, and working with animation and localization
• A collaborative and proactive mindset, with a passion for solving technical challenges
• Strong debugging and optimization skills

Nice to Have (But Not Required)

• Experience with game libraries or engines like Unity, Unreal, Pixi, or similar
• Shader programming or 3D programming knowledge (e.g., OpenGL/WebGL)
• Experience with browser-server communication
• Familiarity with social or online games
• A personal interest in gaming or the gaming industry
