Netflix is looking for an experienced and effective Director to lead our EMEA privacy and data protection/security legal team. This role is headquartered in Amsterdam and reports functionally to the global VP, Legal and Chief Privacy Officer as well as regionally to the General Counsel for EMEA.
Responsibilities
The Director will be responsible for advising on and managing Netflix’s compliance with data and privacy laws in the EMEA region in a balanced, risk-based manner that allows our business to grow and expand, drawing on knowledge and experience with specific government/industry requirements and best practices. This role will also partner closely with cross-functional partners across the business and within Legal, as well as with Netflix’s EMEA Public Policy team to help define and drive our strategy for engaging with privacy and data protection authorities and policy-makers to shape issues important to Netflix and our subscribers. They will also partner closely with our Product Counsel team to provide subject matter expertise in the development of new products, features and offerings that may have particular impact in EMEA.
This is a great opportunity for a strategic thinker who has a proven track record of developing and executing on regional data collection and use strategies, privacy compliance, and data security issues and applying that expertise in a global context.
Requirements
The Director should have at least ten years of experience handling complex privacy, data protection and security issues, with global and in-house experience necessary. Experience in the entertainment, advertising, and/or gaming industry is a plus, as is a CIPP certification.
Proven skill in collaborating across functions and regions is core to the position. The successful candidate will have experience building strong business partnerships and will be able to explain how they have met evolving regional business needs while remaining globally compliant in their past roles.

- Experience building, leading and inspiring a diverse team of high performing individuals
- Strong substantive knowledge of EMEA privacy and security laws as well as international data protection laws, including emerging trends
- Experience with common and civil law jurisdictions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including extensive prior experience negotiating and drafting privacy/security provisions and disclosures
- Ability to navigate ambiguous situations, work well under pressure with diligence, organization, and minimal supervision, and provide practical, real-world advice to clients
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
- Ability to manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues, particularly in a fast-paced corporate setting
- Fluency in English is required, and working knowledge of additional EMEA languages is preferable.
