SENIOR EU PROJECT MANAGER

Stepan Netherlands B.V. is currently hiring a Senior Project Manager with an engineering twist to join our European Regional Engineering Team and execute projects ($1MM-$10MM) using Stepan’s capital management process from Front End Loading (FEL) through start-up.

Job description and responsibilities

• Lead a Project Team to deliver projects on schedule, within budget, and with world-class safety performance and manage multiple projects and disciplines within the teams

• Perform direct oversight of an Engineering Contractor to ensure adequacy and completeness of all engineering deliverables from FEL stage through construction and start-up

• Participate in HAZOPs, Design & Constructability Reviews

• Coordinate with EH&S group and consultants to manage permitting process

• Manage, document, and track all scope changes, including effects on cost and schedule

• Track multiple aspects of project progress and barriers, and prepare summaries for communication with senior management

• Create executive reports to communicate key information including budget, project approval summary, and capital projections to stakeholders

• Work with Cost Estimating Manager to develop and implement a Work Breakdown Structure for the project

• Work with Procurement organization to manage and track relevant requisitions on engineering, material, service and construction

• Track all financial commitments & expenditures, and develop monthly updates with forecasts

• Manage and drive timely project closures and work with Finance team to ensure proper asset capitalization in accordance with Stepan Guidelines

• Follow Stepan’s Stage Gated Project Delivery Process for Technical/Stakeholder Reviews and Approvals

• Integrate Operations and Maintenance representatives to produce a design with safety/operability/maintainability in mind

• Participate in and develop a cohesive European Project Team organization

• Build and develop trust and business relationships vital to the success of capital project submission, review, and timely approval

In this role you work closely with colleagues within the Engineering department and Operations & Maintenance and other departments such as EH&S, Quality, Procurement, Finance, as well as with colleagues at other locations (EU and US). This function requires a high safety and quality awareness. Stepan places great importance to a healthy and safe working environment by complying with health and safety rules, regulations and legislation.

Flexibility and perseverance are a requirement, as well as solution orientation and the ability to function both in a team as independently. In addition to helicopter view, an eye for detail is important, and in our small team, hands-on engineering capabilities are required.

Required

• BS in a discipline of Engineering

• Minimum of 5 years of both project engineering and management experience in capital project execution, as well as a proven track record in one or more Engineering disciplines

• Experience and working knowledge of chemical plant operations and processes

• Demonstrated capability to successfully execute projects with a TIC >$2MM

• Excellent communication skills with all stakeholders involved; fluent in English and Dutch

• Ability to function within a project team, prioritizing/delegating work, driving productivity, and proactively overcoming obstacles in a complex project

• Ability to motivate a team of engineers to achieve common success

• Experience successfully working with both Engineering and Construction firms is preferred as well as with/for asset owners.

• Creative problem-solver who can adjust to challenging situations to meet the schedule/cost/safety targets

• Willing to travel as required by project needs; expected travel < 50%
