Software Engineer II, Backend

About The Role

The Earner Payments team is looking to hire top notch engineers to help design, develop and scale robust payment systems globally that motivate our Earners to engage with Uber via simple and delightful payments experiences. You will help delight our engineering teams, and enable the whole engineering organization to iterate rapidly.

What You Will Do

• Partner with fellow teammates and drive exciting, ambitious, previously unsolved projects from end to end.
• Thrive in ambiguous product requirements and iterate fast to explore possible solutions.
• Drive ongoing efficiency and reliability improvements through design and automation: availability, performance, security, scaling, monitoring and capacity.
• Support your fellow teammates along the way.
• Manage upstream and downstream dependencies, collaborate with other engineering teams and deliver value.
• Be motivated to own projects and push them forward with independence.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in computer science or similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience.
• Fluency in Go, Python, Java or C++
• Sound understanding of fundamentals and principles of distributed systems
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders
  
  

Nice to have

• Experience working in the payments engineering domain
• Prior experience in developing / operating high performance and large scale networking & distributed systems in production.
• Experience in simplifying/converting business problems into technical problems.
• Experience working with teams spanning geographic locations and time-zones.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
