Key tasks
- Drive the design of a scalable data architecture aligned with enterprise architecture and supporting a federated, domain-oriented data mesh approach. Data landscape is characterised by moderate-volume, complex scientific and regulatory data, rather than high-volume time-series or transactional data. The architect must account for the semantic richness, traceability, and governance requirements inherent to this type of data.
- Direct the development of domain-level data products, ensuring they are discoverable, interoperable, secure, and aligned with business capabilities.
- Advise and oversee the implementation of robust data integration pipelines using Azure services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Azure Synapse Analytics, enabling decentralized data ownership and cross-domain data sharing.
- Contribute to FinOps practices by designing data architectures and pipelines that optimise cloud resource usage and cost efficiency across Azure data services.
- Influence data modelling standards to support advanced analytics, reporting, and AI/ML initiatives on the Azure platform.
- Contribute to the development of data governance, metadata management, and data cataloguing practices using tools like Microsoft Purview, ensuring traceability, lineage, and compliance with EU regulations.
- Ensure data quality, availability, and security by collaborating with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams, embedding protection and privacy controls into all architectural artefacts.
- Support the evolution of data strategy by advocating for product thinking in data delivery and promoting architecture patterns that align with cloud-native and data mesh principles.
- At least 5 years of experience as a data architect / senior data engineer performing above key tasks.
- Provide architectural input to project teams on data integration and analytics plans
- Guide project teams on the modelling and design of domain-specific data products
- Collaborate with the Data Governance and Security teams on data classification and protection
