This role is based in our Customer and Digital function. Here we innovate and play to ensure we’re designing for our customers’ needs while ensuring the technical infrastructure supports a seamless user experience across all our products. We also provide all the support that our users need to get the most out of our products, and spread the word though our global marketing work. Our Product Technology department has multi-disciplined delivery squads, each consisting of engineers, designers, QA testers, and product owners. The successful applicant for this role will join one of these delivery squads and will contribute to design, development and delivery of new experiences and products.


We follow an iterative agile process and a continuous integration and continuous delivery approach, supported by an automated release pipeline. Our department is dedicated to utilising good quality practices, and we work with the latest versions of programming languages on a system built on modern cloud infrastructure (AWS).


Our department has a guiding principle to trust and enable engineers to take ownership of their work and determine the most effective way to deliver it. In this UK Remote Senior Java Engineer position, you will join one of our delivery squads and will contribute to design, development and delivery of new experiences and products which will play a significant role in the future of the company.


What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, release and support robust, scalable and adaptable software
  • Collaborate with Technical Leads to design software architecture
  • Conduct code reviews and give respectful and constructive feedback
  • Contribute to the definition and improvement of development processes and policies
  • Write and maintain tests and contribute to expanding test suites
  • Provide appropriate documentation for solutions and promote the development knowledge base within the team
  • Be an active member of an Insights cross discipline delivery squad
  • Attend and actively participate in the squad's Agile SCRUM ceremonies
  • Contribute towards refining and improving delivery processes within the squad
  • Share opinions, ideas, and experience regarding process, features and technical topics which may arise
  • Share your experience and actively engage in mentoring less experienced colleagues
  • Engage in cross-squad collaboration to solve shared technical challenges
  • Understand the impact of technical debt and take action to repay it
  • Participate in third-line application support and resolution of production issues




What you'll bring:

  • Significant experience in Java 8 (or later), Spring Framework(s) & Gradle or Maven
  • Experience with AWS & its managed services portfolio, or similar cloud platform
  • Experience in developing and delivering RESTful APIs
  • Working with & designing for an RDBMS (Postgres, MySQL, SQLServer, etc) & associated ORM technologies
  • Very strong focus on automation through the entire engineering lifecycle (development, test & deployment)
  • Strong technical viewpoint supported by the implementation of robust, scalable, and successful solutions
  • Leading the use of the latest technologies to deliver cutting edge software


Other useful experience and skills:

  • Familiarity with AWS & its managed services portfolio
  • Experience in writing infrastructure as code (Terraform)
  • Familiarity with “Big Data” processing concepts, challenges & architectures


Contract: permanent, full time

Location: WFH within UK
