Software Engineer - X

xAI’s mission is to create AI systems that can accurately understand the universe and aid humanity in its pursuit of knowledge. The team is small, highly motivated, and focused on engineering excellence with a flat organizational structure. Engineers are expected to be hands-on, contribute directly to the company’s mission, and have strong communication skills. The role involves integrating xAI’s advanced AI infrastructure deeply into the X Platform, which is used by around 600 million users monthly. Responsibilities include ideation, experimentation, implementation, and operation of distributed systems, data pipelines, and product features; rebuilding X’s core technology using xAI’s modern tech stack; developing large-scale distributed systems with millions of QPS and deeply integrated AI; and transforming X into the Everything App with Grok. Candidates should have 2+ years of experience with large-scale distributed systems or data pipelines, proficiency in Golang, Rust, Python or similar languages, and optionally experience with modern data pipeline and ML infrastructure, search engines, ads, recommender systems, click predictions, and ranking. The tech stack includes Golang, Python, Rust, and gRPC. The interview process includes a CV review, a 15-30 minute phone interview, a deep dive coding challenge, and a meet and greet with the team.
