Salary: Up to €80,000
Location: Dublin (hybrid, mostly remote with occasional on-site attendance)
Start date: ASAP
A global logistics company with long-established roots in Dublin is seeking a Senior Application and Web Administrator to join its European database team. This is a hybrid, cross-functional role that sits between database administration and web infrastructure. It is ideally suited to someone with experience in Progress OpenEdge environments and a solid understanding of web service architecture.
The company runs several web-based logistics and warehouse applications built around Progress OpenEdge, with front-end interfaces and supporting services managed through Apache Tomcat and Kafka. This role exists to take ownership of the web infrastructure layer, including SSL certificates, uptime, patching, and performance monitoring, in support of critical business applications.
Key responsibilities
- Administer and troubleshoot web services such as Apache HTTPD, Tomcat and Kafka across approximately 60 servers (primarily Linux, with some Windows).
- Take ownership of SSL/TLS certificate management including renewals every 45 days, full chain configuration and resolution of handshake issues.
- Monitor web services using OpenTelemetry and integrate metrics into Grafana dashboards. Support the transition away from legacy monitoring tools.
- Collaborate with Progress OpenEdge developers and DBAs to resolve complex issues across application and database layers.
- Automate configurations, patching and deployments using Ansible and YAML.
- Ensure secure, stable and high-performing web application environments.
- Occasionally assist with broader infrastructure support tasks on Linux or Windows systems.
- Work closely with development, Linux infrastructure and database teams.
Skills and experience required
- Proven experience administering Apache HTTP Server, Tomcat and Kafka in production environments.
- Strong understanding of SSL/TLS management, including certificate rotation, full chain configuration and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as OpenTelemetry, Grafana and Prometheus.
- Solid background in Linux system administration (Windows experience is a plus).
- Practical troubleshooting skills across web infrastructure and application layers.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Progress OpenEdge, which is central to the business's technology stack.
- Hands-on experience with automation tools such as Ansible and scripting languages like Bash or Python.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Based in or near Dublin, with flexibility to attend the office occasionally (typically once per quarter).
Why apply?
- A rare opportunity to work in a hybrid position spanning web administration, infrastructure and database support.
- High level of autonomy in a mostly remote role.
- Join a growing and collaborative team with modernisation projects underway.
- Exposure to a niche, stable technology stack with real-world applications in logistics and warehousing.
