This is a hands-on, 6-month contract role for a Network Engineer. This opportunity is ideal for someone who thrives in structured environments, enjoys improving network security configurations, and can confidently implement changes with minimal disruption to business operations.

What you’ll be doing:

• Conduct a full review and audit of ACLs on Cisco ASA firewalls for accuracy, relevance, and efficiency
• Identify and document redundant, unused, or overly permissive rules
• Implement improvements in rule structure and standardisation, guided by senior architects
• Collaborate cross-functionally with infrastructure, security, and application teams
• Execute cleanup changes carefully, with complete pre- and post-change documentation
• Ensure ACL configurations align with internal security standards and best practices
• Support the development of sustainable processes for ongoing ACL lifecycle management

What we’re looking for:

• Tertiary qualifications in IT, Communications, or related disciplines (or equivalent experience)
• 2+ years of direct, hands-on experience with Cisco ASA firewall configuration and ACLs
• Strong grasp of network security best practices and ability to assess ACL effectiveness via logs, packet traces, and rule hit-counts
• High attention to detail, excellent documentation skills, and a proactive approach
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a change-controlled, enterprise setting
• Awareness of corporate equity, diversity, WH&S, and governance policies

Nice to have (though not necessary)

• Experience with network automation tools like Ansible, Python, AWX, and REST APIs
• Ability to script for provisioning, monitoring, and maintaining network devices
• Exposure to network management and analysis tools like SolarWinds, Splunk, and the TIG stack
