Job Purpose

• To achieve targeted production of copper within stipulated purity range, budgeted cost and time frame through efficient operation of RMH bedding plant, Dryer System, Anode Furnace, Anode Caster and Scrubber Fan.
• To prepare suitable blend as per concentrate availability and furnace requirement in smelter 3 in coordination with PPC.
• To ensure compliance of all quality, safety, health, environment, hygiene parameters and statutory compliances through strict monitoring of operations, process control and improvement.
• To continuously upgrade skills of the team and embed a culture of quality, safety and sustainability.
  
  

Job Context

Birla Copper unit at Dahej is a copper smelting operation having two operational copper smelters to process blended copper concentrates of varying specifications to supply copper in the form of anodes of 99.5% purity to the refineries attached to them. This position is responsible for operation of RMH bedding plant, Dryer System (concentrate dryer, silica dryer and C slag dryer),3 Anode Furnaces, 2 Anode Casters and Scrubber Fan of Copper Smelter 3 supplied by Mitsubishi and preventive maintenance. A key aspect of this role is preparing suitable blend as per concentrate availability and furnace requirement in smelter 3 in coordination with PPC. Achieving all physical and chemical quality specifications of anodes is also a key aspect of this role. Ensuring optimum liquidation of spent anode and other internal and external pure copper scrap through melting in AF. The operation involves hazardous processes and generation of corrosive and toxic intermediate products which need to be monitored to be able to keep emissions such as SO2 and CO2 within permissible limits in smelter 1 premises. The role involves strict compliance of statutory stipulations and compliance of quality, safety, health and environment parameters. It requires continuous process improvement and training.
