Senior Backend Node Engineer

6-month contract | Sydney Hybrid (2 days in-office)

Join a high-impact engineering team building a market-leading platform with global scale in sight. They're looking for highly skilled engineers who can hit the ground running and have experience building high-performance systems… think trading platforms, payment systems, and similar environments.

What You’ll Do

• Build and scale event-driven microservices using Node.js (TypeScript) and Kafka/MQTT
• Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability as the platform grows
• Collaborate with a cross-functional team in an agile, engineering-led environment
• Drive quality through strong testing practices (Jest, Cypress) and CI/CD automation
• Deploy to Kubernetes environments using Docker and Terraform, while beginning the transition to AWS.

What You Bring

• Proven experience building and scaling microservices with Node.js and TypeScript in high-performance environments such as trading or payments, where scalability is critical
• Strong background working with event-driven architectures using tools like Kafka or MQTT
• Demonstrated ability to optimise system performance, scalability, and reliability in production systems handling high transaction volumes
• Solid DevOps experience, with hands-on involvement in end-to-end deployment and system operations
