About The Company

Reed is partnering with a government-backed organisation to hire a Lead Front-End Developer for a permanent hybrid role based in Newport. This position plays a critical role in shaping the user interface and experience across key digital platforms while also leading and mentoring a team of 4–6 front-end developers.

This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned developer with leadership experience who is passionate about building scalable, user-centric web applications and eager to contribute to high-impact public sector projects.

About The Role

As the Lead Front-End Developer, you will be both a hands-on coder and a team leader. You’ll guide front-end architecture decisions, ensure best practices are followed across the team, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver efficient and accessible digital solutions.

This role offers a blend of autonomy and collaboration and requires a strong mix of technical expertise, communication skills, and a drive for mentoring and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of 4–6 front-end developers
  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable, high-quality front-end solutions using modern technologies
  • Develop responsive and accessible user interfaces with a focus on usability and performance
  • Ensure consistency with established design systems and contribute to their evolution
  • Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance and feedback
  • Collaborate closely with back-end developers, designers, product owners, and stakeholders
  • Promote adherence to agile methodologies and support team development goals
  • Drive innovation in front-end tooling, frameworks, and delivery processes

Required Skills And Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in CSS, Node.js, and Next.js
  • Solid understanding of front-end architecture, web standards, accessibility, and performance
  • Previous experience in a team leadership or senior development role
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor other developers while delivering your own technical contributions
  • Experience working in agile development environments
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement

Desirable Experience

  • Familiarity with design systems and component-based architecture
  • Exposure to DevOps practices or CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of automated testing frameworks for front-end applications
