Backend Engineer

Location: Berlin | Hybrid | 1 day per week onsite

Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time

Salary: €90,000 – €110,000 per annum

As they scale their platform to support growing demand across Europe, they’re now looking for a Backend Engineer to join their engineering team and contribute to the development of high-performing, scalable systems that make a meaningful impact.

This is a great opportunity for a backend developer who thrives in an agile, cross-functional environment, enjoys working closely with stakeholders, and is passionate about engineering beyond just the backend. Experience collaborating with mobile teams or exposure to Android/iOS development would be a bonus.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to turn user and business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Build, improve, and maintain high-performance backend services that are secure, reliable, and scalable.
• Contribute to the development of new features and enhancements, ensuring clean architecture and maintainable code.
• Manage the platform’s backend lifecycle end to end, from development through to deployment and production monitoring.
• Support smooth backend–mobile integration by working closely with mobile engineers across Android and iOS.
• Proactively identify and resolve platform issues through detailed root cause analysis and preventative improvements.

Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience delivering scalable backend applications using Java, Kotlin, Jakarta, and SQL.
• Solid understanding of relational databases and experience writing optimised SQL queries.
• Comfortable working in agile teams and contributing to the full software development lifecycle.
• Strong problem-solving ability, with a focus on designing clean and scalable architecture.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset when working across engineering and product teams.
• Experience working with or alongside mobile developers (Android/iOS) is a plus.
• Background in Computer Science or a related technical field is preferred.
